My favorite polishes for Spring

When it comes to nail polish, I'm an OPI addict. I love their colors (especially the matte ones) and I think the quality of the polish is excellent. During the past year I've sported insane bright colors during the Summer and dark moody tones for Fall/Winter (still one of my all time favorites is "You Don't Know Jacques" - it's my go-to color when I don't know what else to wear). I have about 12 different OPI bottles right now, but I can tell I'm in the mood for Spring because I'm really into soft, muted, blushes, tans, and creamy colors right now. Out of my little nail polish drawer, here are my top 5 colors I'm loving (in order from left-to-right, as shown above):

You Don't Know Jacques (like I said, I just love this color and I wear it year-round)
Tickle Me Francy
Grand Canyon Sunset (what I'm currently wearing this week)
Dulce de Leche
San Tan-tonio (part of OPI's newest Spring/Summer 2011 line of Texas-inspired polishes)

Got any favorites of your own that you just can't stop wearing?

Current Obsession: Sparkle sparkle sparkle

I'm currently in love with hints of sparkle here and there to shake things up a bit for Fall. I especially love the way metallic nails offset the somber colors of Fall to give the perfect combo of sophisticated and fun. I've been sporting super metallic nails all week (see above, I'm wearing Milani Disco Lights) and I've been loving it, so I thought I'd share a couple quick tips on how to wear them:

1) If you're going to have crazy sparkly nails you should probably have a relatively monochromatic or simple outfit. This week I've been sporting all black, off-white, and camel colored ensembles with the Disco nails above. Let the nails be the star of the show here!

2) Keep the nails short. If you want to avoid being too over-the-top (and looking like you get paid by the hour on the street corner) then keep your nails trimmed nice and neat too. Super long nails can take this look from sophisticated fun to drag queen in an instant.
And Voila! There you have it. Some beautiful sparkle to add a bit of fab to the somber colors of Fall and Winter. Now of course I have a lot of pink in my complexion so I steer clear of the super golden metallics, but if that suits your skin tone better than rock that as often as possible. :)

Out with the POOF! In with the Twist!

Ok, let's face it. Snookie pretty much killed whatever bit of stylish-ness the hair "poof" had left. I can't look at a poof the same now without seeing THIS face. So what to do with my in between side bangs when I just want to pull them back out of my face? I've decided this Spring & Summer I will just sport what I'm calling "the twist".

I overslept a bit this morning and was rushing out the door, so I just twisted my side bangs back and threw my hair is a little semi-messy bun. And you know what? I think I dig this "Twist" thing. It would look even better with my hair down (think of beach wavy hair with the little twist on the side). I'm thinking this will be a great way to keep my crazy curly bangs out of my face after playing in the ocean this Summer. I'm not a model by any means, but I took a couple pictures so you could see what my twist looks like. What do you think?

Let me know if you think I'm just crazy, but I dig it. LOL.

Spring's side-swept braid

Alexander Wang, Spring 2010 show

I've always been a big fan of the side braid and I will use pretty much any excuse to wear one. Camping? check. Beach day? check. Bike ride, lazy weekend, and even (*gasp*) work? check check check. I think with the right outfit I've been able to pull this off in a professional setting, even at my very conservative job...well at least nobody has told me otherwise so I'm sticking to it. I think the side braid is perfectly youthful without being too much on the silly side like piggy tails, so with it coming back in vogue this Spring I say braid it up ladies! Here are some of my favorite pictures of braids from Spring fashion week:

And while I think those Rumpelstiltskin long braids are wonderful, my shorter hair usually looks a little more like this (which is just great too).
